Ogun State schools to teach Hausa

OGUN STATE government has been called upon to re-introduce Hausa language into the State’s primary and secondary schools curriculum, as part of the package for free education in the state.

The Chairman of the Ofelodun Local government Transition committee, Alhaji Sunmonorth made the call yesterday while commissioning a new block of classrooms in L’ofelofo quarters, Abeokuta.

He said: “For our own sake, we must revive Hausa language in our community and indeed in the whole of the south. Our children must be able to read and write and speak Hausa fluently.

“They must understand that Hausa is an indisputable language of political power in this country. Our son from the south, Obasanjo is president today because of his ability to speak Hausa. Another son of ours from the south, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe was president in the first republic. He too was very fluent in Hausa.”
